Published Fri 01 Nov 2024
Dee began her softball journey with the Ingle Farm Falcons in Year 4 and has since transitioned to the Raptors, where she has achieved numerous accolades. Notably, Dee was honoured with the 2023-24 B Grade Coaches Award with the Raptors and received a Youth Advancement Scholarship.
Dee, who is 17 years old, began her umpiring career four years ago. She has officiated at various competitions, ranging from SAPSASA to her local senior leagues. Dee's dedication and skill were recognised last season when she was awarded the Umpire of the Year by CDSA.
Dee was recently selected to umpire at the 12 Years & Under School Sport Australia National Softball Championships in Cairns. To her delight, she emerged from the event with an unexpected surprise!
“A big congratulations to our club member Dee who received a sportsmanship award for going above and beyond at the under 12’s School Sport National Championships. Dee lives and breathes softball and we are incredibly proud of her achievements and dedication to our sport. Well done Dee!” ~ Raptors Softball Club
When questioned about her time in Cairns and her umpiring experiences, Dee responded with the following:
“The view from Diamond One in Cairns is the most beautiful I’ve seen umpiring softball, with the mountains in the background. Honestly though, I was very shocked about the award. My goal with umpiring is to become a high-level umpire and umpire at the Australian Nationals, and with playing is to always continuously improve.”
Dee also has the privilege of officiating at the November 2024 Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast.
Softball SA commends Dee for her continuous dedication to becoming a successful, high-level umpire. With her unwavering commitment and the support she receives from her club and association, we are confident that she will achieve her goals.
